What a third transport company could be.
Ideas the group has looked at, written down so that thinking out loud is not mistaken for a plan. None of these is being built, none is committed to, and the order they appear in is not a ranking. Several will never happen.
What makes something a candidate
ZeroLanes Trucking set the pattern: a separate company, with its own licensing and its own market, running on the group’s platform. Anything on this page has to clear the same four bars.
It is a company, not a mode
Something that could be added to the UK cab platform as an option is a feature, and features belong on that product’s own roadmap. A candidate has to be able to hold its own licences, its own insurance and its own customers.
A different mode, or a different cargo
Another way of moving the same passenger between the same two points is the business the group is already in. The list below changes what is carried, or how.
The platform’s rules still make sense
A price agreed before the work, a floor no bid can go under, and compliance as a gate rather than a promise. Where those ideas do not fit the sector, the engine is not actually an advantage and the idea is a distraction.
It does not borrow attention the UK company needs
The same precondition that sits in front of ZeroLanes Trucking sits in front of every line below it, and it is the reason this page is a list of ideas rather than a roadmap.
Four that pass it
Courier and parcelIdea
Small goods moved between addresses, many drops in a shift rather than one booked journey. The closest of the four to what the group already does, and still a different business.
- Licensed to carry goods, not passengers, which is a separate regime from the one the UK company works under
- A drop is not a journey, so almost none of the pricing model survives the change
- Nothing has been built and no work on it has started
Patient transportIdea
Booked, non-urgent journeys to and from appointments, including wheelchair accessible vehicles. Never emergency work: that is a different profession and not one this group is equipped for.
- The vehicle and the driver training are the product, not an option added to a normal car
- Work of this kind is usually commissioned through procurement rather than booked, which is a different sale entirely
- Adding a wheelchair accessible vehicle class to the cab platform would not be this. This is a company
Specialist haulageIdea
Loads that are too large, too heavy or too awkward for ordinary freight, where the route itself has to be planned and permitted before anything moves.
- Permits, route surveys and escorting are the work, and a price cannot be quoted without them
- The equipment is specialist and so is the workforce, so neither can be borrowed from another part of the group
- Furthest from anything the platform does today, and listed honestly as such
Port and crew transferIdea
Moving crews between ports, terminals and accommodation, timed against a vessel rather than against a clock, often at hours nothing else runs.
- A schedule that moves with a ship is a different scheduling problem to a pickup at a stated time
- Site access and identity checks at a port are an additional gate, on top of the licensing gate the platform already runs
- Under consideration only. No port, terminal or shipping company has anything to do with this page
A second mode would be a feature. A second company is a business.
It is the distinction the whole group is organised around, and the one that is easiest to lose when an idea sounds adjacent. A company has a licence it can lose, a customer who can leave and a set of books that either work or do not. A feature has none of those, and calling one the other is how a focused operation quietly becomes an unfocused one.
What will not appear here
- A new vehicle class, a new extra or a new city for the UK service. Those are the cab platform’s own work and belong on its roadmap, not on a page about new companies
- Anything emergency or clinical. Responding to an emergency is a different profession with a different duty of care, and it is not one this group is equipped for
- Anything requiring aircraft, which is neither adjacent to what is being run today nor something the platform’s rules improve
- Any idea that only works by putting a ZeroLanes badge on somebody else’s operation. Running under our name means answering for it
To be plain about it: nothing on this page has been started, approved or budgeted, and no date attaches to any of it. The group runs one transport company today. The second one is described, not built. Everything above is further out than that.
What the group actually runs
One live company, one intended, and the platform underneath them both. The structure is set out in full on the solutions page.
