Not built yet

A freight line for the United States.

The group’s second transport company, and the first one outside the UK. It does not exist: nothing is running, nothing is booked, and the name at the top of this page is a working one. What follows is the thinking behind it, which is all there is to show.

Where it stands

The status, first

Status
Not built yet. No vehicles, no licences, no customers and no software. The US product has not been started, and none of the group’s current work is a first step towards it.
Name
ZeroLanes Trucking is a working title, used here so the company has something to be called. The name is not decided, and there is no reason it has to carry the ZeroLanes word at all.
Market
The United States, and built for it rather than translated into it. A freight product shaped around UK assumptions and then exported is the failure this separation exists to avoid.
Timing
There is no date, and there will not be one on this page until it is a decision rather than an intention. When it comes, it will be because the UK company can run without the group’s full attention.

A lorry is not a large cab.

Everything that makes the UK company work is shaped around a person taking a pre-booked journey: what is being carried, who is licensed to carry it, what insurance has to be in force, and what the customer is buying. Change the cargo to freight and every one of those answers changes with it. Building freight as a mode inside the cab platform would mean carrying UK private hire assumptions into a business that does not share a single one of them.

The shape of the work

What travels, and what does not

Carries over

  • A price agreed before the work starts, not assembled from what happened during it
  • A floor under every job that no bid can go under
  • Compliance as a gate in the dispatch path, with an expired document removing a vehicle or driver automatically
  • Work awarded on a score inside a band, rather than to whoever bids lowest
  • Trust earned in public: a better record widens the band a company can bid in

Has to be built new

  • US licensing, US insurance and a compliance regime that shares none of its paperwork with a UK private hire licence
  • A document checker that understands US documents. The one running today only knows UK ones
  • Equipment and load types, which decide what a job even is
  • A customer who is a business moving goods, not a person taking a journey
  • How a load is priced, which is an open question and not a solved one
Preconditions

What would have to be true before it starts

These are conditions, not milestones on a plan. None of them has a date against it, and the first one is not close to being met.

The UK company runs without the group watching it

A second business started while the first still needs constant attention does not get two companies. It gets one distracted one, and the passengers already booking are the ones who pay for that.

A US entity, and the licensing that comes with it

Held to the same standard the UK company applies to itself: verified against the document, recorded with its expiry date, and enforced by the dispatch path rather than by a policy nobody reads.

A compliance gate that speaks US paperwork

The gate that blocks a lapsed private hire licence today has no idea what a US equivalent looks like. Until it does, there is no safe way to dispatch a single load.

A name

Trivial next to the rest, and still unfinished. It is on this list because a page that admits the small gap is easier to believe about the large ones.

Nothing on this page is a commitment. It describes a company the group intends to build and has not started, and it is here so that anyone assessing ZeroLanes can tell the difference between what is running and what is an intention.

The company that does exist

ZeroLanes UK is live and licensed, taking pre-booked journeys at a fixed price today.
